Many people have experienced the situation of having someone ask to be their friend on an internet site like facebook. While sites like facebook have made it possible for people to stay in contact easier than every before, it has also enabled people from your past to look you up which is not always a good thing. In many cases, one has to wonder just why these people are looking you up on facebook after so long.

Many people search out their old friends on the internet to reconnect to a time that they enjoyed in their lives. For many people, high school was their hay day before the reality of life set in and they are looking for others to connect with. When these people look you up only to discuss something that happened decades ago, they may be reaching out for a better time and place. However, if you find that they are unable to talk to you about anything else except what life was like in a time that you shared with them, then perhaps you should not keep them as your friend.

These types of folks maybe never moved on from high school.  They may never have gotten a college degree.  They may not have a promising career as an engineer, designer jewelry creator, marketing manager, architect or so one.  They just live in “the good old days.”

Other people search out people from their past on the internet because they are looking for vindication about their life. In some cases these people may be looking for someone to talk with about how difficult their life has been or they may be wanting to know that other people are struggling with life like they are. On the opposite side, they want to brag about the life that they have had. If you feel like a person from your past is doing either of these, maybe stop talking to them on the internet.
