Computers in the classroom has been a source of debate for several years and the arguments on both sides have good points.
The base of the argument seems to be when is it appropriate to introduce computers, like a hp laptop, into the classroom. For many parents, the idea of their kindergartner having a computer in the classroom or having to complete assignments on the computer seems a little ridiculous. Parents fear that younger children will not be able to learn the fundamentals of learning if they are constantly doing things on the computer.
However, if parents are discussing older children, usually middle school and on, parents feel slightly more inclined to have computers in the classroom as a tool for education. Parents feel that their children should know how to use a computer as almost every job require some knowledge of using technology that is computer based. However, parents begin to worry that if teachers are teaching using the computer and the internet, that their children may be exposed to things that their parents would not want them to see. For example, many teachers are using sites like youtube to show children types of poetry. Arguably, hearing a poem read by a poet is much more interesting than reading one quietly at your desk, but some videos on youtube may be inappropriate for children in the classroom. And as the videos on youtube are not movies, parents do not have to be notified if their child is going to watch something online.
The debate about technology and computers in the classroom will continue rage as more and more funding is put in place to get computers in all classrooms.
